Guiding housing journeys through compassionate counseling and navigation of subsidy programs, they unlock doors so participants can transform unsettled places into secure foundations where lives flourish.
With skills to assess readiness paired with determination to overcome obstacles, Housing Specialists actively build the communities of tomorrow.
*What You Will Do:*
* Coordinate, develop and maintain relationships with reliable landlords, brokers, and realty agencies.
* Maintain an updated database of available housing resources.
* Provide guidance to clients and staff as it relates to housing-related issues.
* Assist residents in seeking safe, permanent, and affordable housing.
* Coordinate with case managers on client cases.
* Inspect apartments to ensure they follow city, state, and local standards.
* Interview candidates to ensure income, family size, etc.

* Identify barriers to housing (i.
e.
: language, substance abuse, appearance, etc.
).
* Advocate on participants’ behalf to obtain and/or maintain housing subsidies (Advantage NYC, Section 8, FEPS, etc.
).
* Assist Case Managers in developing appropriate housing plans.
* Assist in facilitating OOR processes (registration, inspection, linkage, etc.
).
* Assist in the reconciliation of placements; verify non-advantage placements and complete appropriate documentation.
*Who You Will Be:*
* *High School Diploma *
* *Six Months to One Year of comparable housing or real estate experience.
*
* *Good verbal and written communication skills.
*
* Ability to participate in CPR and First Aid training.
* Ability to travel in the community to view available apartments with program participants.
* Ability to work a flexible schedule in response to participant and staff needs.
* Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
